When Pigs Fly (2025)

Based in Keene, New Hampshire, this group has become a popular attraction throughout the New England area. The band consists of John Meehan (mandolin, kazoo, vocals), Matt Atkinson (guitar, vocals), Rich Sullivan (banjo), and Steve Armstrong (acoustic bass). Guests include Elise West (fiddle, vocals, narration), and The Mountain Doo-Wop Boys.

This project was released in October of 2025 and features all-original material from Meehan, who is the band’s main songwriter. The selections include the title “When Pigs Fly,” “The Beacon,” “A Message For Me,” “Homesick Blues,” “Summer Wine,” “A Hundred Miles of Loneliness,” “Goldie,” “Across The Water,” “Radio Silence,” “Just Like You,” “Oh The Moon,” “The Man Who Got Away,” and “The Writing On The Wall.”

“Reverie Reel” is an instrumental, and the song “Hot Water” includes a narration from Elise West. Meehan and Atkinson both swap lead and harmony vocals, and they are enhanced by the backing vocals from West and the talented Mountain Doo-Wop Boys. The music is bluegrass with some new spins, and the arrangements make sure that the players get lots of lead time to show off the interplay between them. This is another great project from this New England outfit.
