This is a really nice project of contemporary acoustic music from this band based in Galway, Ireland. The all-original selections are marked with influences from bluegrass, Jazz, and Celtic styles. The band is two sets of brothers: David Howley (guitar), Martin Howley (mandolin, banjo), Fergal Scahill (fiddle, percussion), and Enda Scahill (banjo). Augmenting the production is a number of artists who add bass, piano, organ, cello, trumpet, saxophone, and trombone.

The title-track “Haven” kicks things off with a very tasteful horn section. “Light In The Sky” is a grassy tune followed by the instrumental “Sugar House” with Celtic overtones. Sierra Hull adds her vocal to “War Of Love” and Bryan Sutton lends his guitar skills to “Marry Me Monday.” Another Celtic tune is “Dawn Breaks,” again using the nice horn section. Other selections include “Sunflower,” “Don’t Let Me Down,” “Hold On To Your Soul,” and “Pack It Up.” This an enjoyable outing from We Banjo 3. (www.webanjo3.com)BF
