Still Standing

North Carolina’s Gospel Plowboys are a group seriously dedicated to spreading the word of Christ through music. The group is Michael Jenkins (guitar, vocals), Kris Miller (vocals), Andrew Brown (bass, mandolin, vocals), Alec McCallister (fiddle), David Brown (bass, vocals), and Peden Williams (banjo). Joining the band on this project is guest Chris Burton (banjo).

The project is a collection of original songs from the members, along with some tunes from other sources. Kris Miller penned the title cut “Still Standing” and “Free,” Michael Jenkins offered “Dallas” and “Do You Want To Go,” and guest Chris Burton created “Why Not Now.” Other selections include Rick Lang/Mike Kelly “Let The Lord Fight Your Battles,” Albert E. Brumley’s “I’ll Fly Away,” and others including “Someone Like Me,” “Poor Rich Man,” “What Would You Do For Jesus Now,” and the ever-popular “Just A Little Talk With Jesus.”

This is an excellent group of players and singers and contains nice arrangements of the material. The message of Christ can be heard throughout as the songs are stories around the life and the impact on the people in each tune. This project certainly proves the band’s dedication to their quest of furthering the good news of Christ.
