DEEPER ROOTS: WHERE THE BLUEGRASS GROWS

Multiple Grammy award-winning Contemporary Christian music artist Steven Curtis Chapman digs into his bluegrass roots for a second time. This CD is a follow-up to Deep Roots, his first venture into re-exploring his Kentucky roots when his dad and his buddies played guitar, mandolin, and banjo.

The 13-song collection kicks off with Chapman’s original title-cut: Well the first sound I remember as a little barefoot boy / Was my daddy’s Martin guitar and a five-string banjo / Skipping stones on Cripple Creek and climbing up Foggy Mountain / And finding my way home to the sound of the banjo / And oh how sweet that sound. He follows that with the chart-topping hit “Dive,” featuring his bluegrass hero Ricky Skaggs. Sprinkled in with the bluegrass are “’Til The Blue” with Chapman’s friend Gary LeVox (lead singer of Rascal Flatts), and familiar gospel hymns such as “Victory In Jesus,” “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” “I’ll Fly Away,” and “How Great Thou Art,” as well as Chapman’s classic, “Cinderella.”

The project becomes a family affair with Chapman’s dad, son, and daughter-in-law  performing on the album. The studio skills of some of bluegrass music’s finest pickers, including Andy Leftwich, Rob Ickes, Bryan Sutton, Keith Sewell, Matt Menefee, and Justin Moses, infused a jolt of lightning to the tracks. While Chapman has made an indelible mark on the Christian music industry, he proves with this CD that he can dive back in to where the bluegrass grows. (www.stevencurtischapman.com)BC
