So Much Time, So Much Love

Johnny and Jeanette Williams bring a long and strong bluegrass resume to this collaboration with Jay Shelton, who after decades in rock music has returned to his bluegrass roots.  The result is So Much Time, So Much Love, a fun debut from the trio that calls itself Shelton & Williams.

The album offers covers of several hits that middle-aged listeners will find familiar. There is “Wasted on the Way” by Graham Nash and “It’s a Good Day” from Peggy Lee to open things. There’s also the Guy Clark and Shawn Camp cut, “Magnolia Wind” and Herb Pedersen’s “Wait a Minute.”

There’s even a nice turn on Casting Crowns’ Christian music hit, “If We are the Body.”  However, Jeanette Williams—who has a pile of bluegrass nominations and awards from SPBGMA and IBMA from over the last two decades—shines the most on an original song penned by her husband, Johnny, “My Heart Beats Like a Drum for You.”

The CD ends on another Johnny Williams song that is sure to make the hairs stand up on any listener’s neck, “I’ve Made it Home.”  In addition to vocals from Johnny (guitar), Jeanette (bass) and Shelton (guitar) are joined by Adam Steffey (mandolin), Jason Davis (banjo), Nikki Wright (fiddle) and Gary Hultman (Dobro).  That’s a lot of talent on the project and makes for an enjoyable ride.
