PRAISES FROM THE MOUNTAIN

It’s unusual for a new, young band to break onto the scene in bluegrass with an all gospel effort, but that’s exactly what Carson Peters & Iron Mountain has done with Praises From The Mountain. The 15-track album offers a nice mix of original tunes, and some old familiar ones as well. No doubt, the banjo drives much of the work, but among the best highlights are those that feature just the harmonies of the group.

Along with Peters (fiddle/guitar), the band is made up of Ben Marshall (bass), Austin Tate (mandolin), Eric Marshall (banjo/guitar) and Jamie Peters (guitar). The Marshalls contributed their writing talents to five cuts.

“I Want To Be Ready,” “I Believe” (with a guest appearance by songwriter Jimmy Fortune), “Canaan’s Land,” and “I’ve Found A Way” are among the best, but the group really sets itself apart on harmony with “Just A Little Talk With Jesus” and the Easter Brothers’ “They’re Holding Up the Ladder.” (FCP Productions, P.O.
