BORROWED-TYMEBORROWED TYME BAND

Bonfire Records
BRC 5003

The Borrowed Tyme Band hails from Central Indiana and consists of Roger Brown (mandolin), Dan Canerday (vocals), Rick Wilson (bass), and Josh Woods (banjo). Joining the band on this project are Tony Wray (guitar), Tim Crouch (fiddle), and Dara Ray (vocals). The selections include a mix of original tunes from writers Rick Wilson and Roger Brown alongside some familiar tunes from The Stanleys, A.P. Carter, and Lester Flatt, among others.

The session kicks off with The Stanleys’ “Little Bessie” followed by “Sara”, co-written by Bonnie Moore and Josh Woods. Rick Wilson’s contributions include “One More Tyme,” “The Legend Of Levi Coffin” and “Borrowed Tyme.” Roger Brown offers the gospel “Friendship In Heaven,” and “I Wanna Go.” Other selections include “No Mother Or Dad,” “Think Of What You’ve Done,” “Gold Watch And Chain,” and the old chestnut “Wild Bill Jones.” Wilson’s ode to abolitionist Levi Coffin is well-done, and “Gold Watch And Chain” is given a nice fiddle overlay from Tim Crouch. The band offers a nice blend of vocals and instrumental delivery, although there tends to be a similarity in arrangement and tempo on some tunes. (www.borrowedtymeband.com)BF
