Bloom

From the twin cities of Minnesota come this interesting trio who formed around five years ago. They are Isabel Dammann (violin), Krissy Bergmark (tabla), and llan Blanck (guitar). Along with guest Olivia Diercks (cello), the group has produced a very pleasant all-instrumental project that has its roots in tradition but is quite modern in approach. They have interesting songs and a style that has impressed those who have heard them. They have travelled the country not only performing but also giving workshops and showcases.

All of the songs have been written collectively by the group and include “this time, last week,” “on the rocks,” “riversong,” “slowly but surely,” and “korenaka.” There is also the interestingly titled “mustard flowers,” “peanut butter honey,” and the ominous titled “something in the pond.”

This is a very nice effort from these folks which features lots of interplay between violin, guitar and cello, and with the percussive use of the tabla giving the project a definite Eastern flavor.
