Learning a Fiddle Tune – Part 2
This is part two in a series of videos that discuss a method for easily learning fiddle tunes. In this segment, Dan Miller demonstrates the A part to the fiddle tune “Liberty” on the mandolin and talks about how to break the melody down into phrases and analyze the melody in a way that will make it easier for your to learn it and know it on a deeper level than just rote memorization.

Great job Dan! Your explanation was very clear and the idea of learning to vocalize it before picking up the instrument makes a lot so sense (I actually nailed Liberty from your Da Das in lesson 1 and knowing key of D. I have found myself drawn to melody first when playing Mando , whereas with guitar I’ve always started with chords so important to emphasize learning the chordal structure regardless of the instrument.
