Waiting Days

Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the band members of Pert Near Sandstone are Justin Bruhn (bass), Kevin Kniebel (banjo), J Lenz (guitar) and Nate Sipe (mandolin, steel guitar, fiddle). They are all known as good songwriters and instrumentalists and they support the traditions of American folk and string band music but with a desire for more modern approaches. This new project is their eighth during the nearly two decades of performing together, and offers a full selection of originals from the band.

There is an underlying theme of railroads and songs of the road throughout, allowing all the members to ably present their compositions and express their vocal and playing talents. Selections include the title cut “Waiting Days,” along with “All Waves Break,” “I’ve Been Traveling,” “Who To Choose,” “End Of The Line,” “Soo Line,” “Out of Time,” “Believe,” “On To Dawn,” and “Lay Down Your Burdens.” Guests include Chris Forsberg (fiddle) and Ryan Young (fiddle).

Young is a member of the Trampled by Turtles band and engineered and mixed this project. Many of the songs feature clawhammer banjo and include nice interplays between mandolin and fiddle. There is an injection of pedal steel on occasion and even a trumpet, all which adds to the more progressive feel. This new project should be popular with fans and new listeners alike.
