Starry Southern Nights
Rock Hearts hail from Rhode Island and in the eight years since getting together in 2013 have become one of New England’s popular bands. Rock Hearts members are Alex MacLeod (guitar), Joe Deetz (banjo), Billy Thibodeau (mandolin), Danny Musher (fiddle), and Rick Brodsky (bass). Collectively they are all veterans of the music, having performed with such artists as Joe Val’s New England Bluegrass Boys, John Herald, Northern Lights, Jeff Scroggins, Jonathan Edwards, Laura Orshaw, and many others.
This project was produced by Ned Lubereki and recorded at Steve Mougin’s Dark Shadow studios, where Mougin was also a guest guitarist. While the band is traditional in approach to their delivery, they are not afraid to take songs from other sources and ‘grassify’ them. This eight-song collection includes originals from the group including the title cut “Starry Southern Nights” from MacLeod, “Whispering Waters” from Thibodeau (Tidwell), and the instrumental “Juxtaposed” by Deetz. Also included is ”Don’t Let Smokey Mountain Smoke Get In Your Eyes,” “99 Year Blues,” “Don’t Take It Too Bad,” “Wake Up And Smell The Coffee,” and an up-temp version of the old blues murder ballad “Stagger Lee.”
Rock Hearts is a collection of very talented folks whose new project really features some great music.
