Since his 2019 debut with the album North Country, Irish-born Danny Burns has received his share of accolades. He possesses a robust baritone and a deft songwriter’s eye and ear for emotional detail that lends itself well to his unique blend of Celtic, folk, country and bluegrass music.
Burns’s new album features a pair of epic emotional travelogues in the title tune and “Blue Ridge Blue” that capture the American landscape through a lens of loss and longing. There’s also the haunting “Does My Ring Burn Your Finger,” highlighted by Bronwyn Keith-Hynes’s keening fiddle, and the torchy “Lips On Fire,” which packs a similar emotional punch.
On the more tender side, there’s “Good Things Happen” and “Love You Bring.” “Who You Know” is a subtle gospel tribute.
Burns is assisted on this impressive song collection by an all-star lineup that includes Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Tim O’Brien, Sam Bush, and Keith-Hynes.
