Mohavisoul
Mohavisoul is based in the San Diego area and takes its name from California’s Mojave Desert. While the band’s musical approach is contemporary, it recognizes its bluegrass roots in both the song writing and arrangements of covers.
The band consists of Randy Hanson (mandolin), Mark Miller (guitar), Orion Boucher (bass), and Jason Weiss (banjo). They are joined by guests: John Mailander (fiddle), and Will Jaffe (resonator guitar). This self-titled release from the group is their sixth and is a fifty-fifty split between originals from Hanson and Miller and covers from sources as diverse as Vernon Dalhart, Doug Dillard, Mike Henderson and Tony Scalzo.
The originals are “Hurry Up And Wait,” “Full Circle,” “Get Lucky Again,” “Old River Knows,” and “Dog In The Middle.” The covers include familiar tunes like “Prisoner’s Song,” “To Be With You Again,” “With Care From Someone,” “The Way” and “Live and Let Live.” The group shines with nice, tight harmonies combined with the rootsy-but-modern approaches to their songs. There is sure to be more to come from Mohavisoul.
