Tennessean Becky Buller is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. She has won awards for Fiddle Player and Female Vocalist, and her songs have won Grammy awards for groups like The Travelin’ McCourys, The Infamous Stringdusters, and Molly Tuttle. Her songs have also been recorded by such as Ricky Skaggs, Doyle Lawson and Rhonda Vincent.
In 2015 she formed her Becky Buller Band which includes Ned Luberecki (banjo), Daniel Hardin (vocals, bass), Wes Lee (mandolin), and Jacob Groopman (vocals, guitar). All veteran players. The pandemic in 2020 brought things to a halt, with the result being where Buller admittingly states in her biography on Airplay Direct that she was thrown into the mental anguish of depression and anxiety and it was her songwriting and beliefs that became her outlet.
This new album is a project of her songs looking both inward and forward. She says the recording is meant to be a listening cycle from start to finish. She had gotten together with Aoife O’Donovan (who also sings) to write the title cut “Jubilee,” a song that was the basis of this release. Another single is “Alone” which she hoped would help dispel her troubles.
In 2023 the band was asked to perform for the FreshGrass Foundation where “Jubilee” was introduced. The songs on this project (all by Buller) and in listening order are, “Prelude,” “Kismet,” “Woman,” “Interlude,” “Jubilee” (with O’Donovan), “Spiral,” “Alone,” “Descent,” “Whale” and “Postlude.” With a mix of upbeat instrumentals, soft solos and vocal ballads, this is a great new release from Becky Buller.
