Instant Lonesome And The Twinkle Brigade
Jody Stecher is a long-time performer and promoter in the old-time, bluegrass, and folk music scene. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Stecher began playing at the age of twelve and grew to gain a background of those music styles, while learning to play guitar, banjo, fiddle, and mandolin. His collaboration with his wife Kate Brislin gained him a couple of Grammy nominations and he continues to produce memorable recordings such as this new one.
On this project, Stecher plays guitar and mandolin, and he is joined in the studio by the Mile Twelve band, which consists of Ella Jordan (fiddle), Korey Brodsky (mandolin, guitar), Evan Murphy (guitar), BB Browness (banjo), Dan Kingsberg (bass), and Nate Sabat (bass). The selections are old-timey and flavored with folk, blues and bluegrass and includes such tunes as “Little Black Train,” “Harvey Wanted Bread,” “A Little Home To Go To,” “The Lost Guide,” “Young Widow Brown,” “Dreadful Morning,” “Diesel Fitter,” and “No Law On Moon Mountain.” Instrumentals include “Shelvin’ Rock” and “The Fifty-Fifty Rag,” and there is a nice waltz “Fare Thee Well Cold Winter.”
This second project with the members of Mile Twelve has produced another of Stecher’s steady and consistent musical output that is both expertly produced and enjoyable.
