If I Wait Any More

The Wilder Flower was formed in 2021, and is based in the rural areas of North and South Carolina. They are Danielle Yother on guitar, Molly Johnson on banjo, and Madeline Dierauf on fiddle. Their Appalachian old-time and bluegrass roots are featured well on this project with their focus on material that includes pleasant lead vocals, tight three-part harmonies, and good playing from all the members.

Johnson is comfortable on both three-finger and claw hammer banjo, Dierauf’s fiddle work is superb, and Yother shows she is no slouch on guitar. Most of the selections are original as Yother contributes “Cold,” “Rambling,” and “By The Whippoorwill.” Johnson’s songs are “Stronger,” My Little Birdie,” “To My Dearest,” and “Miryam’s Dream,” which is half of the medley with the old chestnut “Angeline Baker,” and Dierauf offers “Grandpa’s Coat,” “Gm Tune,” and “Janie.” The one traditional tune is a nice a cappella rendition of “I Am A Pilgrim.”

Johnson’s claw-hammer banjo style is featured on the instrumentals “My Little Birdie” and “Miryam’s Dream,” and accompanies the nice vocal on “To My Dearest.” Dierauf’s fiddle is featured on “Gm Tune.” All the selections feature the trio’s blending of their voices and their instruments in the arrangements. The band’s travels have taken them to festivals, music conventions, and other venues where the trio engages audiences with their songs, humor, and storytelling. This is a nice debut release from The Wild Flower.
