House Of The Dog
Grain Thief is a five-piece band located in Boston, Massachusetts, whose members include Patrick Mulroy (guitar, vocals), Zach Meyer (mandolin, vocals), Michael Harmon (bass, vocals), Tom Farrell (resonator guitar), and Alex Barstow (fiddle). Since forming, the group has performed throughout the country at festivals, concerts, and other events. Many of their songs were written while on the road, staying in hotels, motels, and gathering for writing sessions between gigs.
This fifth release continues as a forum for their original material and features their appreciation for traditional country and bluegrass with songs of life, love, and living. Selections include “Here We Go Again,” “Moving Pictures,” “Happy Road,” “Methadone Mile,” “Walk In The Rain,” and “54 Miles to Empty.”
Instrumentals include “Jackson’s Retreat” and “Tapawingo,” and there are two tunes mixing the themes of breaking up and drinking: “Heartbreak and Red Wine” and “Champagne & Misery.” While based in tradition, the group has a very nice contemporary approach with solid songwriting and their well-arranged blending of instruments and vocals.
