High Lonesome

Colorado and the Midwest have always been locations where bluegrass music has flourished. The bands from that area have based their sound on bluegrass but have also been known for pushing the edges of the music. High Lonesome is one of these newer groups that do just that. Founded in 2018 by guitarist Chuck Sitero, he is joined on this project by Dylan Kober (vocals, resonator guitar), Neva Wilder (vocals, fiddle), Joshua Bergman (vocals, mandolin), and Liz Patton (upright bass).

This new project is a very nice collection of original material from the members and includes a couple of covers. Sitero is the main vocalist and wrote or co-wrote “We Hit The Road,” “You’ll Never Know,” “All That’s Left” and “Savage Sundown.” Bergman offers “Worn Out Shoes,” and “Burning Bridges,” while Kobler gives “Jubilee,” and Wilder wrote “Trust My Hands.” The covers include Louisa Branscomb’s “Old Familiar Song,” Walter Hyatt’s “As The Crow Flies,” and the old chestnut from the Delmore Brothers “Nashville Blues.”

Sitero’s focus has always been on the vocal harmonies and the other members contribute quite nicely to the mix, while also sharing the leads. The band is instrumentally tight and each gets to show their talents during the lead solos. This is a really nice new project from High Lonesome.
