Go Big And Go Home

Growing up in Kenton, Ohio, Mayfield played bass, guitar, and mandolin in his family band. As his music and songwriting skills progressed, he found himself playing in bands like Cadillac Sky, the Avett Brothers, and Mumford and Sons. He also accompanied his folk-artist sister, Jessica Lea Mayfield.

He formed his Mayfield Parade in 2011 and has continued with his writing and performing. The current band includes Mayfield (guitar), Steven Moore (banjo), Keith Wallen (mandolin), Graham Bell (bass), and Ryan Wallen (resonator guitar). The guests on this project are Tim O’Brien (fiddle, bouzouki), and Troy Boone (guitar).

All of the songs on the CD are original material from either Mayfield or others in the band such as Ryan Wallen, or co-written with Steven Moore, Keith Wallen, and sister Jessica. Mayfield and the members share the lead vocals and they all participate in forming the harmonies. Their musicianship is very good and they keep the arrangements and presentation in a solid bluegrass vein.

There is a really nice a cappella tune “The Old Bronson Church” with a tight harmony blend. Other selections include “Time’s Winding Up,” “Daytime Moon,” “At Your Throne,” “Sapphire Town,” and “Never Knew I Could,” and, there is a nice Gospel “The Lord Comes Down.” The group is very good and very tight and should be proud of this new release.
