Duck’s Eye
Nashville musician and songwriter, Charles Butler (banjo, resonator guitar) has gathered together a nice cadre of fellow musicians to back him up on this new project of all-original material from Butler. He is joined on the various selections by Brandon Birkedahl (bass), Billy Conteras (fiddle), Ian Craft (fiddle), AJ Fox (mandolin), Geoff Henderson (bass), Jeremy Holt (mandolin), Will MacLean (guitar), Charlie Pate (bass), Milly Raccoon (fiddle), Frank Rische (guitar), Jake Stargel (guitar), and Jack Studer (guitar).
Spread amongst these nine instrument selections, the group is in command of Butler’s arrangements of interesting timing changes featuring Butler’s styles on the banjo. The title cut “Duck’s Eye” also features Butler’s skills on the resonator guitar. Also, on the tune “Donaldson’s Dawn” there is some nice fiddle work from Contreras, and Butler takes a solo ride on “Eucalyptus.” Other selections from Butler and the group include “Jubilation Lee,” “At The Moment,” “Bellfeather,” “Memory Lane,” and “Garden Gnomes.” The project is a nice showcase of Butler’s instrumental skills and writing ability.
