Blue Collar Gospel

Singer/songwriter Rick Lang follows up his IBMA award-winning CD, Gonna Sing, Gonna Shout with another all-star ensemble of musicians on Blue Collar Gospel (Billy Blue Records). The magical vocal pairings for the 11-cut project including Becky Buller and Nathan Woodard (“Rise Above It All”), Dave Adkins with Alecia Nugent and Jerry Salley (“Old Rugged Me”), Barry Abernathy featuring John Meador, Tim Raybon & Bradley Walker (IBMA 2024 Gospel Recording of the Year nominee, “Just Beyond”), Daryl Mosley & Jaelee Roberts (“Everyday Blessings”), Danny Paisley with Abernathy, Ben James and Walker (“Church Bells A-Ringin’”), Darin & Brooke Aldridge (“The Truth, The Light, The Way”), Williamson Branch (“Get on Board”), Donna Ulisse with Raybon, Walker, and Meador (“A Little Bit More Like Hiim”), Alan Bibey with Magnolia Williams and Jerry Salley (“Catch Me When I Fall”), Alecia Nugent with Salley and Ben James (“On The Tips of Angel’s Wings”), and The Oak Ridge Boys and Salley (“Blue Collar Gospel.”
All the tunes come from the pen of Rick Lang who became quite the prolific writer over Zoom and Facebook with his songwriting collaborators during the pandemic. Unlike Gonna Sing, Gonna Shout, Lang wanted to tap more into the rich resource of bluegrass female vocalists and he included material that would bring a new element to the album.
Tracked at The Magic Shack in Nolensville, Tennessee, the album was engineered by Jason Roller who also contributed his instrumental talents on guitar and fiddle along with Aaron McDaris on banjo, Justin Moses on resonator guitar and mandolin and Jeff Partin on bass. Blue Collar Gospel is an inspirational collection of original gospel songs about ordinary people that thematically explores the struggles, the failures and triumphs of common folks thanks to their faith and relationship with God.
