LONESOME RIVER BAND
CHRONOLOGY, VOLUME THREE
Rural Rhythm
RUR-1103
This third volume of some of the best of the Lonesome River Band’s earlier numbers is re-recorded here with the current lineup. The recording is short and sweet. Ten songs, about thirty minutes of music, is a bit short for the medium of a CD, but it is rich in the quality of music. For fans of the band that did not get the earlier recordings of these songs, this is your chance. For longtime fans who just want to measure the change in the band over time, this could be just what you have been waiting for.
“Long Gone,” “Carolyn The Teenaged Queen,” and “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” are here and are done in fine style. This is an excellent band with Sammy Shelor’s banjo being the cornerstone. Brandon Rickman and Randy Jones share the lead vocals and play guitar and mandolin respectively. Barry Reed is on bass, and Shelor also sings harmonies. Mike Hartgrove plays fiddle in his understated, but highly effective, way that has served him well for a long time.
This is bluegrass Lonesome River Band style. It is solid, strong, and built to last. (Rural Rhythm Records, P.O. Box 750, Mt. Juliet, TN 37121, www.ruralrhythm.com.)RCB
