Why Not
Paolo Ercoli is a resonator guitarist from Brianza, Italy who has performed with many artists such as Eric Anderson, Malcolm Holcombe, Steve Forbert, and Kevin Welch, to name a few. Ercoli also plays mandolin, guitar and pedal steel, but he is best known as a square neck resonator guitarist, having been influenced by the playing style of Jerry Douglas.
On this new project Ercoli wanted to show the different styles, voices, rhythms, and the sounds of the instrument. Helping out on the album are a number of both Italian and American artists to include Max De Bernardi (guitar), Luke Bulla (violin), Dario Polerani (bass), Gino Carravieri (drums), vocalist Veronica Sbergia, Jerry Douglas (resonator guitar), Chris Jones (vocals), Martino Coppo (mandolin), and the father and son players from the Italian band Red Wine, Silvio (banjo) and Marco (guitar) Ferretti. There is also Simona Colona (cello), Jono Manson (vocals), and Luca Barolini (guitar). These are just a few of folks who helped Ercoli put this project together.
Selections include the title cut “Why Not,” “Scarlett Town,” “Remember Me,” “Blues Life,” “Talk Of The Ages,” “Nardis,” “Panhandle Rag”, “Wrong Side Of The Ocean”, “The Ballad Of Tommy Dixon,” “Cheatin Kind,” “Build Me Up From Bones,” and “Someday We Will.” There are also a few short “Interludes” to help separate the feeling and tempos of the tunes, whether it be bluegrass, jazz, or country. Ercoli is a prime example how the music has come to influence so many in the international community.
