Believing in the Old Time Way

Davis Bradley has traditional instruments and traditional songs, but in their latest gospel album, Believing in the Old Time Way, they offer a different take.
It’s the fourth album for the Virginia-based duo who offer plenty of elements from bluegrass, old-time and gospel to build this 12-song collection.
Kathy Davis sings and plays mandolin, guitar, ukulele bass, old time banjo, autoharp, kick drum and foot tambourine. Brad Bishop sings, plays guitar, bluegrass and old-time banjo, resophonic guitar and harmonica. The duo is joined on the recording by veteran bass player Marshall Wilborn and fiddler Wayne Lanham.
“I Went Down to the River to Pray” was famously covered by Doc Watson and Alison Krauss, but Davis Bradley offers a completely different version. “I’ve Never Been This Homesick” and “Wings of a Dove” are among the other highlights.
The duo’s old-time chops come through on the instrumental number “Hard Times Come Again No More.” This is the type of performance fans can catch on the group’s Saturday afternoon “OldTime Radio Show” out of Virginia, which is over the air and also streaming.
