DANCE ’TIL YOUR STOCKINGS ARE HOT AND RAVELIN’: A TRIBUTE TO MUSIC OF THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW

The mythos of television is a reality to some folks and the great programs of yesterday still play the airwaves. Fifty years ago, the Andy Griffith Show ran for eight years. We watched Opie grow up and saw a small town help raise him along with the wisdom of his father and Aunt Bea. This seven-song tribute to the fictitious band the Darlings (in reality the Dillards) of that show captures the wide-eyed innocence of another time.

The album features songs heard on the program like “Dooley,” “Boil Them Cabbage Down,” and “Ole Joe Clark.” Jeremy Abshire’s fiddle is a new sound that the Darlings did not feature, but otherwise the band gets to the core of the 1960s sound of the Dillards, with perhaps a bit more panache in places. We get an ad for Mayberry’s Finest and a silly song, “Boy, Giraffe’s Are Selfish,” as a bonus.

If you are looking to add to your overall Mayberry experience, by all means grab this inexpensive tribute. It is some mighty fine bluegrass played with a big smile, brought to you by the good folks at Mayberry’s Finest Brand Foods. This project is, all at once, a throwback and a lean forward.
