Cindy G (last name Geijda) is a Pennsylvania native who grew up playing folk and bluegrass. Her father, a fiddle player, encouraged her to learn guitar. In her late teens, she spent a few years playing in rock bands, touring from New York to LA. During this time, she began to hone her songwriting skills. But soon, her roots brought her back to bluegrass, and with a solid portfolio of original tunes under her belt, she recorded her first project The Roadin 2012. In 2016, she released Jail Break, produced by Jim VanCleve.
Now, Cindy and VanCleve have produced a wonderful new project that not only features Cindy’s clear vocals, but also includes a number of her originals that make this project shine. She’s joined by Seth Taylor (guitar, banjo), Dustin Benson (guitar), Ashby Frank (mandolin), Cory Walker (banjo), Todd Phillips (bass), Rob Ickes (resonator guitar), Jim VanCleve (fiddle, vocal), and Cia Cherryholmes (vocal). The highlight is the title-cut “Moonshiner’s Daughter,” the story of a young girl having to protect her father’s still. This is followed by other originals, including “Truckload Of Troubles,” “The Drive,” “More Good Looking On You,” and “Wait On Your Love.” There’s also “Heiress,” co-written with VanCleve, about the passing of one’s parents. Other tunes include Kim Fox’s “Love Train,” Mark Brinkman’s “Long Line Of Love,” and Ed Williams’ “Two Feet On The Floor.” Another highlight is Cindy’s “This Old Man,” about Marlin Miller who lived a simple life thirty miles outside of town. Cindy’s vocals are the high-point of this project. Her clear and forceful voice makes each song jump out and folks should pay attention. As the cover of the CD jacket states, the music is “for sagacious creatures of exceptional perception.” Enjoy! (www.cindygbluegrass.com)BF
