Since forming in 2007, Balsam Range has earned over 13 awards from IBMA, based on their eight solid album output and backed by their many acclaimed appearances at concerts and festivals. The band was the 2018 IBMA Entertainer Of The Year, and this project has reached number one on the Billboardcharts.

Hailing from their homebase in Haywood County, N.C., the band is Tim Surrett (bass and resonator guitar), Buddy Melton (fiddle), Caleb Smith (guitar), Marc Pruett (banjo), and Darren Nicholson (mandolin). The album kicks off with their #1 single “The Girl Who Invented The Wheel.” Their second single release is “Get Me Gone.” “Tumbleweed Town” and “Help Me To Hold On” come from writer Milan Miller, while other selections include “Hobo Blues,” “Graveyard Blues,” and “The Rambler.” Also included are “Let My Life Be A Light” and “Angel Too Soon.” To round out the album, the band takes a turn at The Beatles/George Harrison tune “If I Needed Someone.”

Balsam Range is a solid group who have also individually reaped their own awards. Melton was 2018 Male Vocalist Of The Year and Surrett was Bass Player Of The Year. The album title comes from a Greek word about vitality, robustness, endurance, and time. With this project, Balsam Range will continue to be one the most enduring and robust ensembles to grace the bluegrass world for some time to come. (Mountain Home, P.O.
