Morning Glory

This new album recorded for Morning Glory, the gospel imprint of Mountain Fever Music, is the fifth recording from the Tennessee-based bluegrass gospel band LakeSide. Fans of the popular group have always enjoyed their solid bluegrass instrumentation and smooth vocal harmony, and this album does not disappoint. The variety of having several lead singers in the band is a definite strength, as is Greg Blankenship’s deft touch on the mandolin. In addition to Greg, the band includes Lucas Blankenship on the cajón, Jackie Cummings on bass, John Robert Freels on banjo, and Walt Williamson on guitar. They’re joined by guests Justin Moses on fiddle and resonator guitar and also Ben Allen on guitar.
“A Sinner’s Prayer,” co-written by Paula Breedlove and Mark Brinkman and sung here by Lucas Blankenship, is a powerful testimony song. “Sometimes I Feel Like David,” sung by Greg Blankenship and Jackie Cummings is a standout. Two standards are included—Hank Williams’ “I Saw The Light” and “Where The Soul Of Man Never Dies.” The groove is traditional overall, with an occasional contemporary take on rhythm or arrangements. The track “One More Time” is already receiving radio airplay. Additional highpoints include “What A Day That Will Be,” “All My Hope,” “Power In His Name,” and the Ben Allen and Blankenship original “Trusting In His Grace.” Bluegrass gospel fans should easily enjoy this new recording from LakeSide.
