Every so often, those who love bluegrass get concerned about the future of the music. Some of those fears have been set aside as newcomers from more recent generations. They aren’t always “traditionalists”—which sometimes seems counterintuitive since bluegrass itself was birthed as a new sound with touches of the old given a twist.
Add Rescue Junction to the list of youngsters looking to make a mark in bluegrass gospel. Their new album Lions At Heart is a solid start. The five-piece band made up of Kyle Gerber (mandolin), Kaitlyn Gerber (guitar), Roger Martin (banjo), Dallas Roth (bass) and Nick Huber (resonator guitar) is nothing if not original. Kaitlyn wrote all but one of the 13 tracks on the album. They are different, but cohesive—no small feat. Among the best are “Promises Of God,” “Ascend,” “I Am The Evidence,” and “Judah.” (www.rescuejunctionband.com).MKB
