Inside the Lines

This is the second release for western North Carolina’s Nick Chandler & Delivered. It is also the debut outing for the newest members of the band. With Chandler on mandolin, he is joined by Will Eller on banjo and Hudson Bosworth on guitar. Both are students at East Tennessee State enrolled in the school’s bluegrass program. Bassist Gary Trivette rounds out the quartet. Trivette comes from the Claybank band where he was a founding member.

Chandler is also a songwriter, contributing three originals to the project, alongside a couple from Randall Hylton. There are also covers of other writers including selections from Dallas Frazier, Bill Harrell, Don Reno, and Leroy Mack. Chandler is an excellent mandolinist having won a number of awards in both North Carolina and Georgia. The project kicks off with Chandler’s story of an old-time lawman “Big Bill Johnson” which is getting lots of airplay. The other Chandler songs include “Two Timer” and the Gospel “I Can’t Wait.” The two Randall Hylton songs are “She’s Come Too Far” and “A Tree That Stands Alone.” There is a song about a “Man Who Drank Her Life Away” and Frazier’s “I Just Got Tired Of Being Poor.” They cover Bill Harrell’s “Do You Remember?” and Don Reno’s “I Could Cry,” and Trivette offer his own “So Sad And Broken Hearted.” The selections end with an old Country Gazette tune “I Might Take You Back Again.” All the members sing all the parts and the harmony blend is very nice and tight. There is a lot of interplay between Eller’s banjo and Chandler’s mandolin, and even Bosworth gets in a lick or two. This is a very nice traditional sounding second effort from Nick Chandler and Delivered.
