As Time Goes By – Songs of the 1930’s – 1950’s
As Times Go By – SONGS OF THE 1930’S – 1950’S
Chicago area artist Jacob Underwood is a multi-instrumentalist who plays regularly with the Bluegrass Express Band. On this solo project Underwood steps back in time with tunes from the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s. Underwood sings lead and harmony and plays all the instruments including guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and bass. He chose songs from vintage film scores, composers Debussy and Chopin, and period artists Nat King Cole, Teresa Brewer, Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday, Charlie Chaplin. While honoring the original elements of these compositions, he has tried to put them in a bluegrass setting to bring them to new audiences. Selections include “Moonlight Love”, “Till The End Of Time”, “Only Forever”, “All Of Me”, “Till The End of Time”, “Rambling Rose”, and “Smile”. “Once In A While” and “As Time Goes By”, which includes guest harmonies by Anniken Ottersen Lindbak and Rebekka Fjellstad Fredsrud. It is good to hear these songs in this acoustic environment and Underwood shows that he is a skilled instrumentalist and his pleasant vocals and song arrangements make this quite a listenable project.
