Still Run
Originally from Michigan, Jeremy Rilko relocated to Asheville, North Carolina, after serving in the Air Force and graduating from Western Michigan University. It was while in the service and at college that he became enamored with bluegrass music. He has been a banjo player since he was 24, and was influenced by the likes of Earl Scruggs, Béla Fleck, John Hartford and others. He is a current band member of Asheville’s The Well Drinkers and the Asheville Cats. He has performed at a number of concerts and festivals such as MerleFest and Australia’s Woodford Folk Festival.
Now feeling the time was right, Rilko has released this project of all-original material with a variety of themes and topics. Helping out in the studio on the various cuts are Drew Matulich (guitar), James Schlender (fiddle), Lyndsay Pruett (fiddle), Joshua Rilko (mandolin), Adam Bachman (dobro), Branson Raines (fiddle), Nick Dauphanais (guitar, mandolin), Norbert McGettigan III (Bass), Zeb Gambil (mandolin), and Andrew Wakefield (guitar). Rilko’s selections that feature his lead vocals include “Writings On The Wall,” “Sweet Forgotten Love,” “Go On,” “Crooked Road,” “Blue Ridge Mountain Jewel” and “Back To The Country.” The rest are the instrumentals, “Telluride,” “Panic Attack” and “Hog on a Log.” All of these tracks feature Rilko’s banjo and the other players also get to take a lead part. This is a very nice debut effort from this new player on the scene.
