Your Love For Me Is Gold
PATUXENT CDD-361
McGeehan is best known as the bassist for the south-central Pennsylvania band “Serene Green.” Now stepping out on his own, McGeehan (bass & vocals) has gathered together an impressive group of musicians for this new project. They include Chris Luquette (guitar), Ellery Marshall (banjo), Brett Kretzer (mandolin), Alex Hargreaves (fiddle), Jack Devereux (fiddle), Christian Apuzzo (vocals), Jason Borisoff (guitar), and Claire Toulemonde-McGeehan (vocals).
Most of the selections on here are McGeehan’s own compositions to include the title cut “Your Love For Me Is Gold,” then there is “Empty Space,” “The Farmer,” “Communication Blues,” “There’s Always Room In Hell,” and “Wilted Lily Waltz,” and, he covers Elvis Costello’s “Stranger In The House,” and Fred Stryker’s “Don’t Step Over An Old Love.” Instrumentals include McGeehan’s “Monsac,” “The Lovesick Teenager,” and “La Danse De Mardi Gras,” and mandolinist Kretzer’s offers “Screamin’ At The TV.”
The players are solid in their bluegrass delivery and arrangements nicely backing McGeehan’s pleasant vocals and the harmonies of Apuzzo and Toulemonde-McGeehan. Those familiar with McGeehan’s work will enjoy this new project and should also bring new listeners to his fan base.
