Mickey Galyean hails from Low Gap, Surry County, North Carolina. He is the son of Cullen Galyean whose deep bluegrass legacy helped form young Mickey’s music. Galyean formed the Cullen’s Bridge band to continue and honor the traditional mountain music that has become his own style.
On this project, Galyean (guitar, vocals), is joined by band members Brad Hiatt (bass, vocals), Rick Pardue (banjo, vocals), and ‘Fiddlin’ Billy Hawks (fiddle), with special guest Brady Bryant (bass, vocals). Both Hiatt and Galyean are former members of Rich In Tradition, while Pardue played with Roy MCMillan, and Carolina Road, and Hawks is a veteran of the Junior Sisk band.
The selections are many from Pardue including “Get Me Home To Mama,” ‘The Drinking Man,” “Lead Me Not,” and “Beyond The Waterfall.” Other songs are Ralph Stanley’s “Poor Rambler,” Red Malone’s “Love Me Darling Just Tonight,” Jay Shaw’s “Listen To Him,” Michael Glen’s “Echo Mountain,” David McEnery’s “Amelia Earhart’s Last Flight,” and one from Cullen Galyean “Show Me The Way To Go Home,” and one from Galyean himself “You Delivered Me.” There is also the instrumental “Ebenezer.” This is a great traditional album from this band, with strong vocals, harmonies and some very good music from the players.
